The highlight of my work day was seeing my first ever fox. I never really grew up in a place that had a ton of wildlife. You're reading the words of a girl who was thrilled to see squirrels and chipmunks for the first time during my freshman year at BC. The closest brush I had to nature before this was the turkey gang in Newton. Oddly enough, my Dad also reported a Tanuki sighting via email today as well, which I always thought were mythical creatures (or a suit that lets Mario fly in Super Mario Bros 3!)
Anyway, back to the office.
My office building is located in an interesting area. On one side of the building, you've got a parking lot and transmission towers, which are pretty close to a major road (Route 117) and 95. So you wouldn't expect a lot of wildlife.
However, on the other side, we have a gorgeous view of a brook, a pond, and a larger pond that is a filled-in quarry. We're used to seeing plenty of Canadian geese (and their droppings) but this was the first time a fox was sighted!
We all crowded the windows to see the fox make his way around the pond. He walked on the ground most of the time but was brave enough to cross the ice to make his way to the other side of the pond.
To quote one of my coworkers, a woman who isn't the brightest bulb in the bunch and let me make clear, works in a different department, "Oh, he's so pretty! He makes me feel bad for wearing fur. I want to go down and feed him. "
Another coworker replied, "What are you going to feed it? Meat?"
She replied, "No, I have strudel. Do you think he'll like that?"
Disgusted, I returned to my cube.

Tanukis are real? Wow. I really want to play Super Mario Brothers 3 now.
